A consolation build is possible, but the paid product's decisive value sits outside a solo rebuild. For Vidyard, record personalized sales videos and organize them locally for manual sending. The hard boundary is video hosting, viewer identity, crm integrations, team analytics, and sales workflows, plus capture polish, hosting, and collaboration.

# Vidyard indie build

## Goal

Build the smallest trustworthy replacement for the core Vidyard workflow for one developer or a tiny team.

## Scope

Record personalized sales videos by capturing a screen or window with microphone audio, trim and annotate key moments, organize the files locally, and export shareable videos for manual sending.

## Quick start

1. Install the documented dependencies.
2. Copy `.env.example` to `.env`.
3. Run the development command chosen during implementation.
4. Complete the acceptance checks in `BUILD_PLAN.md`.

## Honest limits

This build deliberately does not replace:
- video hosting, viewer identity, CRM integrations, team analytics, and sales workflows
- instant hosted sharing
- viewer analytics
- team libraries
- cross-device capture

If those capabilities are essential, use Cap instead of pretending the gap is solved.

why people still pay

People still pay for Vidyard because the recording itself is easy; the subscription removes upload, transcoding, sharing, organization, and support work. The recurring cost buys OS permissions, codecs, rendering performance, uploads, storage, links, and viewer analytics, not just the visible interface.

questions
Vibecode Vidyard

Not really. Vidyard's value is not the code: Recheck price before merge. See the honest breakdown above.

How much does Vidyard cost?

Vidyard costs about $59/month (Starter, checked 2026-07-31), which is $708 per year.

What do I lose by replacing Vidyard?

Honestly: video hosting, viewer identity, CRM integrations, team analytics, and sales workflows; instant hosted sharing; viewer analytics; team libraries; cross-device capture. If any of those are load-bearing for you, keep paying.

Is there an open-source alternative to Vidyard?

Yes: Cap (Record screen and camera, keep an organized library, then paste the link into your own sales email.) Screenity (Unlimited screen-and-camera recording with local or Drive output; personalization is still manual, as requested.) The prompt is for when you want it exactly your way.
